Our Mission

At CARLOTA we are focused in providing the best experience to our guests, with quality and unique services and products, integrating sustainable practices and becoming the first environmentally responsible hotel in the Historic District of Quito.  We strive to offer the best not only to our guests but to our team members, staff, and all stakeholders, fostering innovation, growth and environmental awareness, respecting culture, diversity and our local community.

History
CARLOTA is a boutique hotel in a renovated historical house within the Historic district of Quito. The house was built at the turn of the century circa 1905. In 1966 Doña Carlota Echeverría de Moreno acquired this house, which would be her home and her family’s for over 40 years.

CARLOTA opened in 2017, with the intent of preserving a historical landmark of great value to the city and to Doña Carlota. At the same time the hotel aims to contribute to the city with an intimate, exclusive and innovative hospitality proposal that will enrich what the historic district has to offer. UNESCO declared Quito’s Historic District a “World Heritage Site” in 1978. The National Government and Municipio de Quito have taken actions to recover the historic district and to turn it into the most important tourist destination in Ecuador and in Latin America. The city of Quito has been distinguished as best tourist destination in Latin America for the last years .

Carlota
Carlota Echeverria Ruiz (1918 – 2021) was an exceptional woman. Born in the city of Cotacachi in the province of Imbabura she was sent at her young age to a nun convent, where she would spend a large portion of her childhood. Coming from a middle class family she gets married to Rene Moreno Andrade, a lawyer known for his strong character.

Doña Carlota bought the property where this beautiful hotel stands today in 1966. A house built in 1905 and where for many years ex president of Ecuador Rodrigo Borja Cevallos lived, it was also a school in the 50’s and the site for the conservative party in the 60’s. Carlota since then lived in that house with her four children.

Carlota passed away in May of 2021, leaving behind an unmeasurable legacy not only for her family but the whole country. 3 books written, many poems recited, but above all her unmeasurable love to everyone that surrounded her. She lived a full life and was able to see Hotel Carlota which was a product of her grandson and godchild Renato’s vision.

Before and After
The restoration of Hotel Carlota was complex and required around four years and many resources to be completed. The recognition received by the Quito Municipality in 2018 like the best intervention in the historical district, as well as having received the pan american architecture biennale in the restoration category and recycling are the product of the work that was achieved during this process.

All of the conceptualization, architecture and design of the project was done by architect Veronica Reed, recognized for her accomplishments in sustainable architecture along with her team VIVAARQUITECTURA.
