Leed Certification.
Carlota maintains high environmental standards that guarantee the least impact on the environment and surrounding ecosystems. Carlota is the first hotel in the country to obtain LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Carlota's operation and maintenance, as well as all of its services, will be Green Globe certified for its sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.
Environmental strategies that allow Carlota to minimize its impact include:
- On-site production of clean, renewable solar energy to cover 25-30% of the building's total energy demand.
- On-site solar power will also allow for proper operation during a power outage.
- An advanced water filtration system will make it possible to recover gray water from showers and reuse it for flushing toilets, reducing water consumption by 50%.
- For proper recovery of gray water, all toiletries offered to guests, such as shower gels, shampoo, etc., are biodegradable and contain no contaminants.
- All water fixtures in bathrooms and common areas are WaterSense certified for high efficiency and minimal water consumption.
- Materials and finishes, such as carpets, wood paneling, etc., are materials with a high recycled content or made from material recovered from the original building.
- The entire structure, windows, doors, etc., have been recovered and maintained to restore the original atmosphere and reduce the environmental impact.
- All private rooms and common areas have adequate natural ventilation and natural light for comfort and well-being.
- All of the hotel's lighting is LED for lower energy consumption. All equipment such as televisions, appliances and hair dryers are energy efficient and Energy Star certified.
- Public spaces include an urban garden for the production of locally sourced organic greens, spices and vegetables that are part of the menu at Carlota's Bistro, boutique and Lounge.
